Marjorie A. Schmidlap, age 88, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at King's Daughters' Hospital. She was born on February 25, 1928 in Jefferson County, Indiana, the daughter of William Noah and Gertrude (Stonehouse) Perkinson.
Mrs. Schmidlap was a homemaker, a babysitter through the years, and worked as a seamstress for Meyers Manufacturing for a few years. She and her husband owned and operated Bear-In-Mind Craft Shop for eight years. She had a passion for flowers, flower gardens and was creative in arranging flowers. She was an excellent seamstress, having made clothes for her children and grandchildren. The kitchen was her favorite place to be and she always had cakes and pies for visitors.
She always put others first and was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Before she became ill, she crocheted over 200 scarves which she donated to House of Hope. She also enjoyed word search puzzles.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Shirley LeGrand of Madison, and Sandra Smith and her husband, Dan of Madison; one son, Gary Schmidlap and his wife, Russella of Kent; three grandchildren: Tami Dubuque and her husband, Pete, Tara Schickel and her husband, David, and Amber Weatherbee and her husband, Kyle; three great-grandchildren: Gladys Fernandez, Trey Schickel, and Drew Weatherbee; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon E. Schmidlap, whom she married on May 10, 1946 and who passed away on March 11, 2011; three sisters: Alma Perkinson, Edna Hicks, and Marie Kent; and five brothers: Lawrence, Forrest, Ernest, Virgil, and William Perkinson.
Preacher Dan McDonald will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 and from 10 AM until the time of service on Thursday.
