Patricia M. Bersch, age 86, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Hickory Creek of Madison. Born September 2, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of Henry J. and Margueritte (McVey) Bersch.
Ms. Bersch was a 1947 graduate of Madison High School and attended Hanover College. She served as a Vice President of First Bank of Madison for many years. After retiring in 1993, she volunteered in the cafeteria at Pope John Elementary School. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church and a member of Bethany Circle for nearly 60 years, having served as a past Vice President and President of the Board of Directors at King's Daughters' Hospital. She served on the Regatta Committee as treasurer for many years, volunteered for Historic Madison as a docent in the weaving room of the Sullivan House, and served as a former director of Friends of Shawe and Pope John Schools. She was a member of the Jefferson County Historical Society, and a past member of the Republican Women's Club. She helped and served on many boards and committees throughout her life, and enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching, puzzles and making rosaries.
She will be sadly missed by her brother: Peter J. "Pete" Bersch of Las Cruces, New Mexico; seven nieces: Jean Deaton of Madison, Mary Lindsey of Madison, Judy Mondragon of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Loretta Bersch of El Paso, Texas, Julie Bebey of Maple Glen, Pennsylvania, Jennifer Bersch of Anchorage, Alaska and Donna Pilla of Warrington, Pennsylvania; four nephews: Michael Bersch of Ferndale, Washington, Mark Bersch of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Greg Day of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, and Roger Day of Ambler, Pennsylvania; 21 great nieces and nephews, and three great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Donna J. Day and Mildred Ann Bersch; and one brother: James H. Bersch.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Christopher Craig at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with internment to follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
The Bethany Circle of King's Daughters' Hospital will conduct a memorial service at 9:00 AM Thursday at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Friends and family may call at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Thursday.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Prince of Peace Steeple for the People Fund, Friends of Shawe and Pope John Schools, or King's Daughters' Hospital Foundation. Contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.
