Obituary for Frances Faye Harris (Helms)

Frances Faye Harris (Helms)
Frances Faye (Helms) Harris went to home to be with the Lord on 12 July 2016. Faye was born on 29 June 1926 to Murray and Olive Helms in Fountain City, Indiana. After graduation from Fountain City High School, she attended the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, earning her Registered Nurse certification in 1947. On 17 September 1948 she married Kenneth Harris, her high school sweetheart. Together they enjoyed nearly 43 years of marriage, before Dad’s passing in1991.

Mom worked as an RN on the night shift at Winchester Memorial Hospital, then at Reid Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, Indiana after our move to Greenfield in 1958. In 1967 we moved to Farmington Hills, Michigan as a result of Dad’s promotion at Ford Motor. Mom soon found work in a surgeon’s office and worked there until 1984 when she and Dad retired to Madison Indiana. They enjoyed many happy years in Madison, attending Trinity United Methodist Church; playing golf regularly at the country club; playing bridge; and enjoying a delightful community. After Dad’s passing Mom continued to enjoy Madison and traveled extensively as she explored the world. Especially memorable was her Scandinavian trip with daughter Carolyn and granddaughter Lezley; and a drive across the US with son Michael.

In 2003 Mom moved to Vancouver, Washington to be closer to her son Michael. In Vancouver she led an active life, joining several bridge groups, being involved in her church, and driving until 3 months before her passing. As she neared the end Mom’s faith was especially strong, reflecting her lifelong commitment to God. Many times she shared how she anticipated going Home. She celebrated her 90th birthday a few days before her passing, fully enjoying the party and her birthday cake.

She is survived by Carolyn Davidson (Dennis) of Minneapolis, grandson Matt (Romelle and great granddaughter Marzi) and granddaughter Lezley; and by her son Michael (Janice) and grandsons Kevin and Daniel. She is also survived by sister Deborah Higgs of Richmond, Indiana and many nieces and nephews throughout Indiana. She was preceded in death by brothers Keith and Herbert Helms.

There will be a celebration of her life on 12 November 2016 from 1:30 to 3:00 PM at the Friends Fellowship House, 2030 Chester Blvd., Richmond, IN.
