Life Story for Linda S. "Lynn" Murphy (Butler)

Linda S. "Lynn" Murphy (Butler)
Linda S. "Lynn" (Butler) Murphy, age 76, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on December 13, 1940 in Kentucky on her grandparent's farm on Patton's Creek. She was the loving daughter of the late James W. and Ruth (Wheeler) Butler. She was born and raised in Trimble County, Kentucky, and was a 1959 graduate of Hanover High School in Hanover, Indiana. After graduation from high school, Linda graduated from Porter Business School in Indianapolis, Indiana. After graduation, she started working at the state house in Indianapolis for two years.

She married in 1960, and was the mother of two loving daughters, Dianna Lynne and Kathy Elaine. After being a stay-at-home mom for five years, she returned to the work force as a Regional Sales Manager for Sanborn Electric. Later in life she worked at King's Daughters' Hospital, where she retired in 2008.

In 1973, she reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Clifford "Biff" Murphy, to whom she married on January 5, 1974. They shared 23 loving years of marriage until Biff's death on March 31, 1997.

She was a lifetime member of the Milton United Methodist Church, where she taught the young adult Sunday School class for several years. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society of the Methodist Church. Linda was also a member of the River Valley Community Church. She was a member of the Gideon's International "Madison Camp," where she served as secretary.

Linda was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Madison Chapter #530 and the Hanover Chapter #525. She served as Worthy Matron several years and was district deputy in 1987 and 1988. Linda was the Grand Representative to Puerto Rico in 1995 and 1996, and served as Grand Warden to the Indiana Grand Chapter. She was also a Kentucky Colonel. Linda enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, spending time with her family and many friends, and swimming at the Y.M.C.A. in Vevay, Indiana.

Faith, family and friends were very important to her.

She was a very devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Linda greatly enjoyed social gatherings, ice cream, and a great piece of chocolate. Hers was a life well lived.

Linda passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at home. There will be an Eastern Star service at 7:30 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
