William A. Thompson, age 82, of Milton, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Baptist Health Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. Born February 13, 1935 in Carroll County, Kentucky, he was the son of Oscar Irvin and Velma (Gross) Thompson.
He graduated from Carroll County High School. He then served in the United States Army on active duty from August 6, 1957 to August 1, 1959 and in the United States Army Reserves until 1963. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class. He worked for Rexnord/Envirex as a painter and in the warehouse until he retired on December 31, 1996.
On April 21, 1962, he was united in marriage to Louretta May Cain in Oldham County, Kentucky.
He was a member of Milton Baptist Church where he was a Deacon Emeritus. He was also a Sunday School teacher and a record keeper. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and the outdoors.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of Milton; his daughters, Peggy Sue Barnard and her husband, David, of Milton, and Cheryl Lynn Koons and her husband, Rick, of Lanesville, Indiana; his sons, David Allen Thompson of Madison, Indiana and Richard Lee Thompson and his wife, Jade of Springboro, Ohio; six grandchildren: Ashley Kendall, Paullette Thompson, Nick Thompson, Nathan Barnard, Casey Thompson, and Grace Gisewite; and one great grandchild, Christien McConkel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Oscar R. Thompson in 2009.
The Reverends Tim Scott, Ferrill Davis, and Tom Starks will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Milton Baptist Church, 10076 US 421 N., Milton, Kentucky with interment to follow in Moffett Cemetery.
Friends and family may call at the Milton Baptist Church from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, February 20, 2017, and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday.
The Honor Guard of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, will conduct military services at the church and cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Milton Baptist Church Building Fund. Contributions may be made at any of the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
