Walter Douglas "Doug" Perry, age 90, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana. Born September 3, 1926 in Trimble County, Kentucky, he was the son of Walter and Nola (Sanders) Perry. He was a graduate of Trimble County High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 23, 1945 serving as a Sergeant during WWII. On December 1, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Mary Carroll Bell in Bedford, Kentucky.
Doug worked as an automotive parts salesman. He worked at C&R Parts for 30 years, and then worked for Indy Auto for another 22 years. He enjoyed the people he worked with and his customers. He was a proud member of the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Milton, Ky. In his spare time, he enjoyed attending the sports activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and watching U.K. Basketball and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball games.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters and sons in law: Nancy and Clint Bear, Kathy and Darrell Auxier, and Ann and Greg Motenko, all of Madison; his sons and daughters in law: Stanley and Marlene Perry of Edgewater, Florida, and J.D. and Donna Perry of Fishers, Indiana; his sister, Imogene Bird of Louisville, Kentucky; nine grandchildren: Christi Burnett, Mike Haven, Sarah Gordon, Justin Motenko, Caroline Auxier, Jacob Perry, Jon Motenko, Matthew Perry, and Sunshine Austin, and seven great grandchildren; Zachary and Brooke Burnett, Zane and Maya Gordon, and Sophia, Bradley and Ethan Haven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Stephen Matthew Perry, and his brothers, Joseph R. Perry and Ewing Perry.
The Reverend Kelly Nichols will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, on Madison’s Hilltop with interment to follow in Bedford I.O.O.F Cemetery in Bedford, Kentucky.
The United States Army Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 30, 2017.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Carmel Methodist Church or charity of the donor’s choice. Contributions may be made at any of the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
