Dorenda Kay McAlister, age 61, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana. Born March 19, 1956 in Carrollton, Kentucky, she was the daughter of John and Mae (McManis) McAlister. She graduated from Madison High School and received her bachelor degree in accounting from Ivy Tech. Kay retired from Armor Metal before working as a tax preparer for the Tax Factory. She also bartended in Madison and Carrollton. Kay was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion, Jefferson Post #9 and contributed to the Wounded Warriors Project and Habitat for Humanity. She liked to sew, cook, can food, garden, motorcyle rides, crossword puzzles and spend time with grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed by her sons: Jason Tharp and his companion, Raney of Madison and Jeremy Tharp; her sister, Deborah Myers of Indianapolis; her brother, Damon McAlister and his fiancé, Dana Kernen of Madison; her companion, Jess Shipman of Madison; her sister in law, Nancy McAlister of Madison; her grandchildren, Morgan, Hadyn, Hannah, and Landon; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Darrell and Dennis McAlister.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2-5 PM on Saturday December 2, 2017 at the American Legion, Jefferson Post #9.
