Life Story for Clem Hoffman

Clem Hoffman
Clement "Clem" Hoffman, age 91, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Born October 23, 1926 in Madison, he was the son of Matthew J. and Clara (Hunger) Hoffman. On April 6, 1948, he was united in matrimony to Joann Haak and would have celebrated 70 years together next month.

Clem was involved in many businesses throughout his life including owning and operating a Texaco station, selling recreational vehicles and real estate. He was a Private First Class in the United States Army during World War II and in Germany at the Nuremburg Trials. Clem was a devoted Catholic and was involved in his church his entire life. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Church choir for over 60 years, beginning when he was just a young boy. He enjoyed his family, singing in the barbershop quartet, golfing, gardening, raising roses, nature and traveling..

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Joann of Madison; his daughters: Kathy Stivers of Louisville, Kentucky, Judy Gayle and her husband, Warren, of Madison, and Sara Stockdale and her husband, Martin, of Madison; his granddaughter: Melissa Sims and her husband, Brian, of Louisville; and his grandsons: Matthew Stockdale and his wife, Noelle, of Madison, and Zachary Stockdale of Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Elizabeth Hoffman; his son-in-law, Bernard Stivers; his sister, Marcella Hoffman; and his brothers: Robert, Maurice, Herman, Joseph, Matthew, and John Hoffman.

Father Christopher Craig will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street, Downtown Madison, with interment to follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Main Street Chapel from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, March 11, 2018, and from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Monday.

The Rosary will be prayed on Sunday at 7:30 PM at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Main Street Chapel.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Steeple for the People of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Contributions may be made at any of the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
